Young looks for success at home track

Ron Young and RB1 Motorsports will kickoff their 2007 season in the NASCAR Busch Series this weekend in their own backyard when Young heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway where the team will attempt to qualify for the Nicorette 300.

Qualifying is scheduled for 11:05 a.m with the race taking the green flag at 3 p.m. on ABC.
Atlanta is about an hour from Young’s shop in Conyers, being able to race the No. 71 Chevrolet in front of a few more family and friends carries a little bit of extra incentive to do well.
Still, Young’s primary goal is to qualify for the 43-car field which 45 cars are attempting to make.
“We’ve got a good racecar, we’ve got a pretty good motor in it,” Young said. “Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and we’ll be in good shape.”
Young’s last start at Atlanta was in 2003 when he started 35th and was on-target to challenge for a top-15 finish before engine problems dropped him to a 32nd-place finish.
However, Young won’t be going into weekend lacking experience on a larger track. He tested an ARCA car during the Series’ January testing session at Daytona, giving the driver extra time not only in a racecar, but on a bigger track as well.
“Anytime you get in the seat, it’s a plus anywhere,” Young said. “Anytime that you get out there, you are better off than you were before.”
Young, who competed in Busch Series races at Gateway and Martinsville last year, is seeking sponsorship to run additional races during the remainder of the season. Interested parties can contact the team at (770) 922-1275.
